Deposited residues of
combustion of whatever type (a coating of metallic salts or soot) on the
tubing of heat exchangers reduce the coefficient of heat exchange,
increasing loss of energy in the form of hotter gases emitted into the
atmosphere. This can produce both the following effects:
1- Increased fuel consumption to
produce the same quantity of steam.
2- Reduced production of steam when
using the same quantity of fuel.
Published studies on this subject apply the following data on heat losses
and increased fuel consumption to produce a given quantity of steam,
according to the thickness of the coating of residues or soot deposited on
the wall of the heat-exchanger tubing:

In order to minimise the formation of incrusted residues on tubing of the
boiler heat-exchangers on the exhaust gas side, and to allow swift
cleaning, it is necessary to apply treatments to the fuel (especially in
the case of fuel oil) which reduce the quantity of unburned particles
(soot) and generate inorganic residues (coating of residues) that are
crumblier and less adherent.
For installations with steam boilers, treating fuel oil with the additive
“rb bertomeu”
beco F2/A Concentrated and treating diesel fuel with
“rb bertomeu”
beco F-Plus Concentrated fulfils both these requirements, as the
additives combine components to improve combustion with organic salts of
magnesium to raise the melting point of the inorganic ash (that is, the
coating of residues). This treatment, in addition to reducing fuel
consumption, prevents corrosion on tubing, reduces coking on burners and
reduces the formation of fuel sludge.
