A steam generation installation,
consisting of two boilers with an steam output of 25 MT/h, both running on
fuel oil, used to cause a problematic situation in relation to its
surroundings, because on occasions it emitted soot along with the
combustion gases released through the chimneys, giving rise to
complaints from buildings in the immediate vicinity and surrounding area.
The pyro-tubular boilers are equipped with a double burner operating at
single speed or double speed, according to production requirements.
To find a permanent solution to
the problem, a three-month
test was carried out, applying the additive
"rb bertomeu"
beco F2/A for fuel oil used in boilers, then later,
continuous additive treatment was applied when the consistent excellent
results had been observed. The tests began in October 2003, and,
recently, after two years of regular use of the additive, the
proven results not only include significantly reduced soot emissions,
putting an end to past complaints, but also, a large
reduction in the usual incrusted residues on the heat exchangers and the
virtual absence of coking on burners. Furthermore, heat exchangers
are cleaned with greater ease and speed because the encrusted residues are
more powdery and much less adhered to the tubes.
The improvements obtained in these
parameters are estimated to correspond approximately to the
following values:
Reduction in soot
emissions per chimney |
: |
75-85 % |
Reduction in quantity of
residues in the heat exchangers |
: |
70-80 % |
Reduction in the time
needed for each cleaning operation |
: |
reduced by 50-70 % |
Reduction in cleaning
burners affected by coking |
: |
70-90 % |
The reduction in ‘operational incidents’
with treatment applied to the fuel oil (additive applied at a dosage of
0.4-0.5 parts per thousand with "rb bertomeu"
beco F2/A) has allowed the factory to eradicate the problem
of troublesome emissions, to reduce stoppages for cleaning, and to increase
steam production in proportion. This ensures the profitability of the
additive treatment, even without taking into consideration other benefits.
The improvements obtained are consistent with results obtained in other
plants with steam boilers.
