The “rb bertomeu” beco F1-Ship  additive, is formulated specifically for addition to any type of heavy fuel oil on the market , especially when it is going to be used in Co-generation Diesel engines or Naval engines.
The product is the NONFLAMMABLE  version (Flash point greater than 61ΊC) of the beco F1/ASF additive , to be used in facilities whose regulations require it. Flash point of beco F1-Ship is 75ΊC instead 50-54ΊC for beco F1/ASF.

SAVES FUEL . REDUCES SLUDGE AND EMISSION OF UNBURNED FUEL.  REDUCES CORROSION  AND  ENCRUSTATION. REDUCES OPENING  FREQUENCY OF THE PURIFIERS.

PRESENTATION :   Metal drums of 200 litres

The formulation of the “rb bertomeu” beco F1-Ship additive is composed of:

 

a) Stabilisers, which detain the ageing and normal degradation of the fuel oil, and avoid the increase in sediments by increasing the size of the small particles in suspension.

b)  De-emulsioners, which accelerate the speed of separation of the water, to the bottom of the storage tank, for ease of removal.

c) Dispersants, which  cause the uniform separation of particles of asphalts, coals and other solids which the heavy fuel oil contains, minimising sludge formation .

d) Corrosion inhibitors, which  protect the metal parts of the fuel oil circuits.

e)  Detergents, which reduce the formation of carbonous deposits and flow loss in the injectors, and maintain an excellent pulverisation.

f)    Surfactants, which  reduce the surface tension of the fuel oil and achieve better pulverisation ( a fundamental principle to achieve good combustion).

g)    Solution of organic Magnesium, which  increases the fusion point of the vanadium, (which is inevitably formed in the combustion of the fuel - oil), reduces the compacting and corrosion in the exhaust valves and head of the piston . Furthermore it reduces the oxidation of anhydride sulfurous (SO2) to anhydride sulphuric (SO3), which reduces the formation of sulphuric acid (H2SO4), in the low-temperature zones , avoiding the cold corrosion of the inlet valves and other cold points of the exhaust gases combustion circuit.

h)  Organic Solvents , which  serve as excipients to the formulation .

 

ADDITION POINT:  The addition must be done simultaneously with the filling of the fuel oil tank, in the entrance line to the storage tank, to achieve a perfect mixture. Also, it can be added , when necessary, in the entrance pipeline to the day tank, though the efficiency in this case is reduced.

DOSAGE :   The dose is variable in function to the quality of the fuel oil. As orientative datum, the normal dose is between  0.25  and  0.50 additive  litres per Tm  of fuel oil , for the qualities of heavy fuel oil normally found on the market.

2)    COMPOSITION
The additive contains the following main components:
* Organic solvents not classified as flammables
* Amides and amines of  alkylic chain.

* Soluble organicmetalic salts from fatty acids

* Phosphoglycerides

 

3)    RISK  IDENTIFICATION
* Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Very low toxicity.
* Eye irritant with risk of lesions.
* Skin irritant after long periods of contact or exposure.
* Irritant of the lungs and respiratory tracts when large concentrations are in the air.

 

4)    FIRST AID
* If swallowed:
       Remove as much of the product as possible from the mouth. Do NOT induce

              vomiting.

            Seek medical assistance to pump out the stomach. Administer nothing by mouth if the          patient is unconscious; if conscious, give plenty of water to drink.
* In contact with eyes:
       Wash with lots of water for at least 15 minutes.
       Seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
* In contact with skin:
       Wash the affected parts with soap and water.
       For long periods of exposure to sensitive skin seek medical advice to avoid dermatitis.

5)    FIRE  PRECAUTIONS
* The product is combustible and therefore  flammable.
* Combustion generates nitrogen oxides which are produced by the decomposition of the amines.
* The following can be used to extinguish fires:
    WATER SPRAY, DRY POWDER, CO2, FOAM or SAND.

6)   ACCIDENT  PREVENTION
* Personal protection :
       Keep the product away from sources of fire.
       Keep the product away from food and drink for human or animal consumption.
       If personnel are affected, remove the contaminated clothing and wash the affected

             parts with soap and water.
* Environmental protection :
       Prevent the product from reaching the public drainage system and natural water

             courses (rivers, canals, etc.).
* Cleaning :
       Use sand or soil to limit the extent of the spillage. If possible use a pump or manual

             tools to take up the spillage. Use an absorbent material on the remaining product.


 

7)    HANDLING AND STORAGE
* Handling :           Use protective clothing.
                   Avoid leaks and splashes.
                   Do NOT handle near fire or flame.


     * Storage : Store at normal room temperature.
                       Keep containers closed when not in use.

   The product can acumulate static electricity. Use appropiated earth connections.

 

8)    EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
* Mainly , avoid contact with the eyes, and preferably eliminate contact with the skin and the

breathing of fumes.
* Use glasses, goggles or screens (holomogated) to avoid eye contamination.
* Use neoprene gloves (or similar) to protect the hands.
* Use breathing apparatus or face masks for organic vapours in case of spillage in an enclosed

 area.

10) STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
* The product is considered stable under the normal storage conditions highlighted in section 7.
* Thermic decomposition can generate adducts of ethylene oxide from 200ΊC.
* Combustion generates nitrogen oxides by oxidising the amino groups.
* Avoid contact with acids and oxidising agents as these produce moderate reactions which

         neutralise the amino groups.

 

11) TOXICOLOGYCAL  INFORMATION
Calculed from the data of components and its percentages in the final product.
* Oral toxicity :  LD50 =  1400 mg/kg  minimum (OCDE 401 , Rats).
* Skin toxicity :   LD50 = 1720 mg/kg  minimum
* Inhalation toxicity :  CL50 = 26600 ml/m3

* Skin irritation .  Weak . Long period of contact can produce dermatitis

     * Eye irritation: strong.
     * Respiration tract irritation: weak, but it can act as an anaesthetic in high concentrations.

13) PRODUCT DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
* Given the harmful nature of the product one should take precautions to avoid environmental

        contamination if accidental leakage occurs. If this happens, follow the instructions in section 6.
     * The contaminated liquids and solids should be incinerated following the current regulations.
